The Klarna scam email: how to recognise the fake
A scam message circulating in Klarna's name demands an account update within 48 hours, or your account will be frozen. It looks convincing.
The four giveaways
- The sender's real address has nothing to do with klarna.com, whatever the display name says
- A 48-hour deadline and a threat to freeze the account: pressure is the tool
- The pink 'Suorita päivitys' button leads to a fake page built to collect your details
- A generic greeting instead of your name
What should you do?
Do not click anything. Open the Klarna app directly and check there. Then report the message on Klarna's own phishing page: klarna.com/fi/phishing-ja-huijaukset. Reporting helps get the fake pages taken down.
Already clicked or entered details?
Contact your bank or card issuer immediately if you entered card or banking details, change any reused passwords, and report the incident to the police. Step by step: I clicked a scam link. What now?
The same trick arrives in the name of Suomi.fi, Posti, the bank and the tax authority: common scams in Finland.
